Lecturer in housing and urban economics at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland. He holds a Masters degree and a PhD from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, and a Masters degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. He is also a chartered planning and development surveyor.
With over 15 years? experience as a lecturer, Lorcan is one of Ireland?s leading experts on housing and in particular the rental sector. He writes extensively on housing development and housing policy and is also a specialist consultant to the private sector.
Lorcan writes a weekly column for the Sunday Times, provide expert commentary and analysis on housing issues for media outlets nationally and internationally (e.g. RTÉ, BBC, Bloomberg [UK, US], CBC [Canada], etc.), as well as appearing regularly on prime-time Irish radio and television. He writes for academic and professional journals and currently sits on the editorial board of Housing Ireland. 
Lorcan is the editor of Ireland?s only book on the rental sector (Renting in Ireland: the private, voluntary and social sectors [2014]) and a ground- breaking book on the future of Ireland?s main city (Dublin?s Future: new visions for Ireland?s capital city [2011]). He has collaborated on projects on ageing and safety (2009), ageing and housing (2016), macro-spatial planning (2009), as well as presenting papers on diverse housing-related topics such as housing and religion (with Dr Kurt Xerri; 2015), temporal ownership and the Irish housing system (2015), and ideologies of renting (2014).
